HUDC's Apartment house constructed in 1955-1964 have been rebuilt from 1985 because of their deterioration. But, the rebuilding have some problems ... the rent increase, collapse of the existing community, and the getting worse of their environments, etc. The purpose of this study is to clarify the residents' evaluation of their housing rebuilt, and to suggest the desirable rebuilding method of old apartment houses. For this purpose, we set up questionnaires in November 1995. The results were as follows :1. Many former residents hoped that they lived in the same area and the rebuilt housing. So, in rebuilding of apartments, "the newcomer" should not be made much of, but "the former resident".2. There were many elderly in the former residents. So, a design of barrier-free housing environment should be desired.3. Residents appreciated the elevator, but they felt that people didn't meet another near their dwelling units as they used to do before, because of height increase of buildings.4. Many residents were anxious for their continuous living because of the high rent. Some effective policies are necessary for their stable living there.
