本年度の研究は、近世中期の徳川吉宗の時代に社会教化のうえで大きな意味をもったと考えられる『六諭衍義大意』の刊行事業に焦点をあて、その成立過程、流布状況および利用の実態について検証し、近世から近代に至るわが国の社会教化政策の実態を明らかにしようとする目的ですすめられているものである。この目的のもとに本年度は、まず『六諭衍義大意』刊行の契機となった中国の『六諭』の存在と琉球人程順則による『六諭衍義』の刊行の経緯を中国および琉球関係史料の調査をおこない、徳川吉宗による教化本として導入されるまでの状況を跡付けた。このなかで、当時の中国、琉球および日本をとりまく外交関係に儒教思想とそれを伝達する出版という媒体の存在が大きな意味をもって存在したことが浮かびあがってきた。ただ、本年度の階段では中国の状況に関する十分な把握には至ってはいない。よってその面に関しては今後の研究計画の一つとなろう。また、琉球での『六諭衍義』の社会教化への実態が、薩摩藩を通じて徳川吉宗による江戸幕府の社会教化策に影響を与え『六諭衍義大意』や類書の教化本の刊行がかなりの範囲で行なわれたことも明らかになった。なお、その内容を含む詳細な検討は今後の研究計画の一つでもある。今後は、上に記した課題の他に近世中期の『六諭衍義大意』による社会教化の流れがその後近代に至るまで引き継がれ、わが国の教育に与えた影響について考察する。
