主として「ドイツ押収文書」とニュノレンベルク裁判提出書類を収集・整理・分析をおこない、その結果、1942年のナチス戦時経済体制の編成過程で、強制収容所が根本的に変化したことをつきとめた。そこで、その制度変更の内実を追跡する作業をおこなった。それによって明らかになった点は、この制度変更にともない、強制収容所は、SSが軍需生産に積極的に介入するための手段ではなくなったが、その一方で、二つの課題をもったということである。第一は、強制収容所がナチスのユダヤ人政策と関連するようになり、ユダヤ人を収容し、また絶滅させる機関と化したということ、第二は、囚人が軍需生産のための労働力供給源の一つとなったということである。こうした二つの課題を与えられた強制収容所に、SSはユダヤ人を大量に収容しはじめた。アウシュヴィッツとマイダネク強制収容所の二箇所に集中収容したが、とくに前者では、「選別」が行われ、労働能力のないユダヤ人はガス室で殺害され、労働能力にあるユダヤ人は劣悪な収容条件の下におかれた。本研究では、以上にとどまらず、外国人労働者との関連で強制収容所を捉える作業をおこなった。それによって明らかになったのは、SSが労働力供給源としての強制収容所の意義を強化するために、とりわけ外国人労働者を大量に強制収容所に収容しはじめたということである。以上の研究成果は慶應義塾経済学会の『三田学会雑誌』第89巻第2号(1996年7月)に掲載が決定している。また「ナチズム研究の現状と課題」と題して、ドイツ現代史学会大会主要報告をおこなった。そこではとくに強制収容所をめぐる問題の研究状況と今後の展望を報告した。個別強制収容所における囚人の生活・労働条件・戦況がドイツにとってさらに悪化した1943年以降の段階での強制収容所については、分析の手懸かりを獲得したにとどまり、今後の課題として残っている。
