项目摘要

海洋表層水から中・深層水への有機物の輸送は、地球表層で発生した二酸化炭素の中・深層水での貯留という観点から注目されている。これには、植物プランクトンによる生物ポンプとの沿岸域から外洋への有機物の輸送が重要な過程として挙げられている。本研究では、富栄養化した本邦太平洋側沿岸域に注目し、大陸棚斜面から海溝域を超えて外洋への有機物の輸送系について明らかにすることを目的とした。そのため、脂肪酸および有機物の炭素安定および放射性同位体比を指標として以下の結果を得た。日本海溝最南端域の三重点付近に観測点を設定し、有機炭素フラックスを計測した。その結果、相模舟状海盆を通して海溝底への有機炭素フラックス(有機炭素の水平輸送)は9.5mgCm^<-2>日で、海洋表層の植物プランクトンの沈降のよる有機フラックス(有機炭素の鉛直輸送)の約5倍に相当する。日高舟状海盆域の日本海溝斜面域にセヂメントトラップを設置し、年間を通して有機炭素フラックスの時系列変化を観測し、また脂肪酸組成の特徴を明らかにした。その結果、生物ポンプは春季と秋季に、また有機炭素の水平輸送は冬季の気象擾乱に誘発されることを見出した。炭素安定および放射性同位体比から、西部北太平洋域における有機炭素フラックスは、大陸に近いほど「有機炭素の水平輸送」系の影響を受けていることを見出した。
