Dicationic diboranes: synthesis and reactivity

While cationic monoboranes were extensively studied and used in a variety of different reactions due to their high Lewis acidity, the chemistry of cationic diboranes is almost unexplored. This project aims at the synthesis of dicationic diboranes with sp3-hybridized as well as with sp2-hybridized boron atoms and the detailed evaluation of their reactivity, e.g. the interesting combination of high Lewis acidity and electron-rich B-B bond. The work in this project profits from the experience with such compounds in my group.
