ケンブリッジ学派の経済思想について、同時代のオクスフォードやLSE (London School of Economics)の経済思想も考慮しながら、次の3点を中心に共同研究を進め成果を得た。(1) マーシャルとマーシャル派の産業経済学・人間福祉の経済学、(2) 創設期の厚生経済学と福祉国家、(3) ケインズ革命とマクロ経済学の批判的評価。毎年、この領域で世界の研究をリードする海外の研究者を招聘して国際コンファレンスを開催して成果を報告し、また国際的な研究ネットワークの構築と研究水準の向上に努めた。
