本研究の成果は、ブリテン諸島(現イギリス・アイルランド)地域の歴史をヨーロッパおよび大西洋の関係のなかでとらえなおし、古代から今日までの期間について、自然環境から民族、宗教、秩序のなりたちまで含めて考察し、そこに政治社会をなした人々のアイデンティティが複合的で、かつ歴史的に変化した点に注目することによって、旧来のホウィグ史観・イングランド中心主義を一新した、総合的なブリテン諸島通史にむけて確かな礎を構築したことにある。

The results of this study are: The history of the region includes the history of the Atlantic Ocean, the history of ancient times, the history of the natural environment, the history of ethnic groups, religions, and order, and the history of the region. The history of the past and the centralism of the past and the history of the past are the foundation of the new and integrated history of the islands.
