In the pre-industrial era, there was a positive association between income and fertility across households within societies, but in the modern era, a clear association does not seem to exist, neither positive nor negative. Why the income-fertility relationship within societies changed over time is an unsolved puzzle in the history of economic growth. This study developed a growth model focusing on changes in public policy for children and offered an explanation for this puzzle.

在前工业时代，社会中各家庭的收入与生育率之间存在正相关，但在现代，似乎不存在明确的相关性，既不存在正相关，也不存在负相关。为什么社会内部的收入-生育率关系会随着时间的推移而变化，这是经济增长史上一个未解之谜。这项研究开发了一个增长模型，重点关注儿童公共政策的变化，并为这一难题提供了解释。
