Our previous study found that multisensory integration of affective information is modulated by perceivers' cultural background. The purpose of this study is to examine the generalizability of our findings and to examine why cultural differences are observed in the multisensory perception of emotion by faces and voices. Results confirmed that Japanese people are more attuned than Dutch people to vocal processing in the multisensory perception of emotion, even when clear faces are used and even when participants pay attention to both faces and voices. Results also revealed that East Asians are more attuned than Westerners to vocal processing.

我们之前的研究发现，情感信息的多感觉整合受到感知者文化背景的调节。本研究的目的是检验我们研究结果的普遍性，并检验为什么文化差异会在通过面孔和声音对情绪的多感官感知中被观察到。结果证实，日本人比荷兰人更能适应多感官情绪感知中的声音处理，即使使用清晰的面孔，即使参与者同时注意面孔和声音。研究结果还显示，东亚人比西方人更擅长声音处理。
