本研究課題の初年度である今年度は、これまでの準備研究の取りまとめを行いながら、更なる関連文献資料の博捜、読解、教会および世俗君主の財産目録などを中心とした未刊行の一次史料の収集、そして金細工工芸研究に欠くことのできない教会宝物室や美術館などにおける作品の実見調査を行なった。上半期には、特にH. Klein, Byzanz, der Westen und das wahre Kreuz. (2004)やA. Frolow, Les reliquaires de la vrai croix(1964)等の精読を通じて、本研究課題で扱うべきパネル型聖遺物容器のリスト化を行った。続いて、個々の作品が保持し得た機能や意義についての精査を行い、公的な礼拝に資するものや、個人的祈念の対象となるもの、保持者の権威を補強するものなどタグ付けを行い、《リブレット》に至るまでに西欧で制作されたパネル型聖遺物容器群が、世俗的／宗教的コレクションにどのように位置づけられるかを全体的に把握することに努めた。11月末からは、欧州での作品・文献調査出張を行った。とりわけ、クリュニー美術館にてTableau-reliquaire : Crucifixion entouree des instruments de la Passionについての詳細な実見調査、関連資料調査を行うことができ、新たな知見を得られたこと、Opificio delle pietre dureにて修復家、修復科学者らとの意見交換を行い、上半期の成果に対するフィードバックが得られたことは本研究の推進に大きく寄与すると思われる。また比較美術史的観点から、11月に「羽黒と熊野Ⅱ：聖地と絵図」というフォーラムを企画・催行し、聖地の表象について、西欧中世と国内聖地（熊野・羽黒・雲仙）の事例を比較し、相対化する試みを行なった。
