本課題は、アメリカ合衆国、サンフランシスコにおいて毎年開催されているアジア系アメリカ人映画祭を対象とする都市人類学研究である。映画制作・上映活動から、アジア系移民の歴史記憶の解明、及び抵抗運動と労働が不可分にある活動過程を質的調査し、 ポスト・フォーディズムにおける労働の質的変容の解明するものである。これまでのアジア系アメリカ人についての研究では、とりわけ北米のエスニック・スタディーズ、日本におけるアメリカ研究では、エスニック・マイノリティとしてのアジア系アメリカ人として主体が設定されていた。この設定に対して、本課題は、主体化を行為遂行的な状態として捉えたうえで、主体化のプロセスの解明に向けて、社会運動と労働が不可分な関係にある点に着目した。具体的には、アジア系アメリカ人の映画制作・上映活動の過程、つまりは自らを表象してゆく映画制作、集団での映画鑑賞のプロセス についての具体的調査を行い、歴史経験の構築を解明する。加えて、そうした映画制作・上映活動過程に付随する労働の側面の分析、つまりはポスト・フォーディズムにおける労働の質的変容について検討を課題とした。人類学的アプローチによるフィールドワークを主な研究方法としてきたが、パンデミックの影響により、アメリカでのフィールドワーク実施による質的データの取得ができなかった。しかしながら、フォーディズムからポスト・フ ォーディズムへの移行に伴う労働の再検討についての理論構築のための分析をすすめてきた。とりわけ、アジア系の主体化に関する考察について、名誉について正面切った議論を展開したD・グレーバーの『負債論』を参照し、アジア系のアメリカ社会への同化（「モデル・マイノリティ」神話）を念頭に置き、映画制作・上映活動から、現代の自己犠牲的労働価値と、名誉に関わる兵士の社会的価値に関する考察をおこなった。
