本研究は、僧侶の語りである「法話」に着目することで、都市部（首都圏）の葬儀における僧侶介在の意味を、宗教社会学的な観点から検討することを目的としている。2022年度はまず、伝統仏教教団別院（真宗大谷派東本願寺真宗会館）を対象に、寺院行事の参与観察および僧侶らへの聞き取り調査を実施した。寺院行事の参与観察からは、法話が葬儀の場に限らず日常的に人々に受容されている具体的な様相が示された。聞き取り調査では、菩提寺を持たない、または遠方に位置する人々の葬儀実態を明らかにするために、「首都圏仏事代行制度」の利用実態、首都圏の葬儀における僧侶の位置づけ、真宗会館の平時の取り組みなどを尋ねた。これにより、真宗会館が一般の人々と寺院を結ぶ窓口としての役割を持つことが明らかになったほか、首都圏の葬儀にかかわる貴重な資料を多数収集した。次いで、首都圏の開教寺院R寺の住職を対象に聞き取り調査を実施し、調査対象寺院の概要、調査協力者の基本属性、都市開教の実態、葬儀・法話の取り組みなどを尋ねた結果、遺族や近隣住民、葬祭業者からの信頼を得る上では、法話の技量や僧侶としての人となりが重要な要素であることが指摘された。また、法話の内容として死者と生者を結びつけるような物語が用いられていることが明らかになった。さらに、葬儀研究において非都市部と都市部を架橋する視点として、僧侶の有する2つの顔（宗教的職能者／生身の人間）に着目して論点を整理し、論文として投稿し、受理された。また、個人化社会における葬儀の分析視角を検討することを目的に、文化人類学の知見を援用することで弔いにおける死者と生者の関係性を捉え直した。この成果は投稿論文として学術雑誌に掲載されている。2023年度も引き続き、上記2つの対象を含む調査を実施し、分析を進め、得られた成果は国内学会で口頭発表するほか、論文として投稿する予定である。

Second, the implementation of the survey, the summary of the survey target temple, the basic attributes of the survey collaborators, the status of urban development, the selection of funerals and religious activities, the results of the search, the information obtained from the deceased, the neighboring residents, the funeral industry, the technical level of religious activities, and the important factors of the people.
