本研究の目的は、地方私立大学における留学生の量的拡大と教育の質的転換を両立させる全学的な学修支援体制のあり方やその構築の意義を探ることである。この目的に向けて、研究1年次の2022年度は主に4つの研究活動を行なった。（1）2022年11月から2023年1月にかけて、7つの地方私立大学において、留学生受け入れに関連する部署の教職員関係者を対象に、対面またはオンラインでインタビュー調査を行なった。（2）対面またはオンラインで収集したインタビューデータを文字化する作業を行なった。（3）調査データや関連成果に基づき、留学生の学修支援や学修成果に関する研究発表を、国内外の学会で計4回行なった。（4）調査データや関連成果に基づき、4つの論文を出版した。例えば、①「How to Shape Characteristics of Chinese Universities by Classified Development: Reflections on the Reform of Japanese Private Universities」（CSSCI論文）②「私立大学における学生支援の新たな展開 ―山梨学院大学の取り組みを事例に―」の論文がある。これらの論文は、本研究の成果や洞察を体系化し、学術的な形で発信するために執筆された。これらの論文の出版により、研究成果が広く共有され、他の研究者や専門家との知識交換が促進されることを期待している。また、これらの論文は留学生の量的拡大と教育の質的転換を両立させるための学修支援体制の構築に関心を持つ人々にとって、有益な情報源となりうる。
