開発途上地域において、貧困や栄養不良状態の人々の厚生および栄養改善に効果的に対処するための方法を考察するため、農家の消費行動の変化を所得の変動要因の観点から分析し、特に栄養状態改善に寄与する消費財への支出に影響を及ぼし易い所得源の存在を検証することが本研究の目的である。2023年2月にマダガスカル中央高地に渡航し、稲作農家を対象に家計調査を実施した。農業生産および他の所得源に関する情報と消費行動、主食作物かつ現金所得の主要源であるコメの生産が変動した場合の消費行動への影響に関する仮想的な質問を行った。コメの自家消費量に対する年間生産量の過不足の状態に基づいて対象家計を３つのグループに分け、収穫量が一定程度（30％）増加または減少した場合の収穫物の使い途の変化を整理した。自家消費ストック量、販売量、種子用保存量において、増収、減収ともにグループごとに異なる影響を持つ可能性が示唆された。さらに収穫物の販売した場合に得られる現金の使い途についても整理し、増収時と減収時で財によって影響を受ける程度が異なることも示唆された。調査後、得られたデータと対象世帯を同じくする既存パネルデータとの統合作業を行った。合計5年間の所得源の整理と農業生産・各所得の額・消費内容の経時的変化を捉える計量分析用のデータセットを構築し、今後の分析作業の準備を進めた。今後、聞き取りの結果と実際の生産・消費データとの整合性を確認して仮想的な質問の有効性を検証し、かつ所得変化と消費変化の関係を解明するための仮説構築に役立てる。
