本研究は日本社会の縮図としての家計簿を研究の軸に置き、そこからみえてくる家計や社会経済の変容を多角的に捉えることを目標としている。我々の研究チームは、自らの研究分野に留まるのではなく、積極的に他分野の研究者と共同研究を行い、知識の補完を行うことを目指している。現在、本研究は経済史分野において先駆的な学際研究のあり方を模索し、学術的にも従来になかった実証研究の枠組みを構築中である。今後この枠組みを通じた成果を出していく予定である。さらに我々は、スマホ上の家計簿アプリによって家計データを集めるという試みを、政府公的統計である『家計調査』と補完的に利用する方法に組み込む。本研究で構築されるデータベースも最先端の技術を反映させていくつもりである。また、本研究が取り組んでいるデータベース構築として、第二次世界大戦期に収集された『農家経済調査』個票資料と、戦中・戦後を通じて一般家計によって記帳された『家計簿』資料がある。『農家経済調査』に関しては、農林省第4期データ（1942～48年：戦中期）の47都道府県分のデータ入力作業（委託業務）を終えた。また、データの校正作業においては、2022年10月から校正作業を担う研究協力者の「データ分析補助業務」への参画が再び得られ、合計で18都府県の校正を2022年度末までに成し遂げ、本年度も加えて4～5県分の校正作業を完了する見込みである。そしてこれまでのところ、校正作業の完了した18都府県すべてのパネルデータ化にも成功している。『家計簿』データベースの計画に関しては、昨年度7冊分を加え、6世帯（220冊分）のExcelデータ入力作業を進めることができた。また、2022年度に新規受け入れをした26世帯のうち、3世帯について紙媒体からpdf化を行った。
