Issues of Sustainable Growth in China for the 21^<st> Century : Quantitative Appraisal(2000-2020)

During the research period of 3 years from 2000 to 2002, three overseas field researches were implemented in China, visiting mainly Beijing, Shanghai and Gansu Province, and three workshops also were held at Nagoya, inviting Chinese research collaborators from Beijing, Shanghai and Gansu. Based on the research papers of the three workshops, we are now editing a research report entitled "Issues of Sustainable Growth in China for the 21^<st> Century : Quantitative Appraisal", which consists of 4 Parts, 25 Chapters and 1 Appendix (on data & statistics). Part 1 (Issues of Regional Development) presents econometric modeling analyses and quantitative empirical studies on the topics of comparative advantage structure, labor migration, physical distribution, small & medium scale and rural industries, issues related to WTO accession, etc.in the regional development of China (especially of the Great Western Development). Part 2 (Issues of Sustainable Development) reviews and investigates ecological environment, water control, and SO2 emissions in West China, urban problems in China, environmental cooperation between China and Japan, etc. Part 3 (Case Study of Gansu Province) quantitatively and empirically analyses development planning, development strategy, labor market, sustainable development, etc.in Gansu province. Part 4 (Issues of Macroeconomic and Social Development) presents institutional, quantitative and econometric analyses on social security, educational investment, WTO and trade, FDI, productivity, tourism development, unemployment, etc.in China of the national level. The report as a whole consists mainly of quantitative analyses and evaluations of the Chinese economy, society, and regional development at present and in future (till 2010).
