Main objectives of the research was set to investigate the real situations of Chinese labor migration crossing the national borders into the Russian Far East. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Chinese Opening up policy, a tremendous changes took place and a mass migration followed, creating serious and some conflicting situations in Russian border regions. This situations, if last longer, were dangerous both for economic and political relationships not only for the both countries but also for neighboring countries including Japan. Hearings from the academics and specialists in the administration of Khavabovsk and in Vlagoveshichensk (first year), and also in Heihe and Harbin (second year) were extremely useful. We also met with administrators of the central ministries and analytical centers in Moscow and in Beijing in order to be acquainted with the official views and policy agendas.Many findings and new precious information were obtained by these visits and meetings. We needed, however, further contacts and possibilities for so, we organized an international symposium in the third year for discussions and exchange of views. The papers presented to the symposium will be published in Japanese language and part of them were already put into print in Russian language.

研究的主要目的是考察中国劳动力跨国界进入俄罗斯远东地区的真实的情况。苏联解体和中国改革开放后，俄罗斯边疆发生了巨大的变化，随之而来的是大规模的移民，造成了严重的矛盾和冲突。这种情况如果持续更长时间，不仅对两国，而且对包括日本在内的邻国的经济和政治关系都是危险的。来自哈夫斯克和弗拉戈维希切斯克（第一年）以及黑河和哈尔滨（第二年）管理部门的学者和专家的听证会非常有用。我们还在莫斯科和北京会见了中央各部和分析中心的管理人员，以便了解官方的观点和政策议程，通过这些访问和会议获得了许多发现和新的宝贵信息。然而，我们需要进一步的接触和可能性，因此，我们在第三年组织了一次国际研讨会，进行讨论和交换意见。向研讨会提交的论文将以日文出版，其中一部分已经以俄文出版。
