This paper is the research regarding the continuation development possible modernization ot a Yao-Dong. It carried out the survey of the Yao-Dong Dwelling at Zaoyuan Village. We did the questionnaire survey regarding the living environment of the Yao-Dong dwelling and did the measuring of heat-flow, noise, lighting, Air-quality furthermore. We understood the next from the result of the questionnaire survey.1. The inside of the Yao-Dong is cool summer, be warm winter. And the case 90% of the villagers are satisfied.2 To this, 70% of the villagers are unsatisfactory in ventilation'.3. Many villagers were satisfied about lighting environment. However we showed that even nighttime is very dark even a daylight in the Yao-Dong dwelling.Thermal environment measured it as the distribution of space. We continuously measured temperature for 24 hours. The measurement items are air- temperature, wall surface temperature, heat-flow. In addition, we developed the measuring system on the temperature with the influence of radiation, and measured vector temperature by using it furthermore. As the result of measurement, the characteristic of indoor temperature is able to classify it by the architecture form of a Yao-Dong dwelling. Furthermore, it was able to grasp the thermal insulation performance of the soil of a new-style Yao-Dong by the heat flow. The new-style Yao-Dong is 2-storied. The sunroom of the south side was able to obtain bright warm temperature also in winter. The evaluation of the resident to the residence performance of the new-style Yao-Dong was very high. There is the window that considered with ventilation and lighting, at the wall of north side. Because always there is the flow of the heat for outside from the north side wall, the storage heat effect of the wall body is not admitted. Then, we are thinking that a new-style Yao-Dong needs to improve it furthermore.
