The purpose of the research is to determine the optimum composition of hydrogen absorption alloy using hydrogen micro-imaging system, and to develop high performance hydrogen absorption alloy.The specimens were V-Cr-Ti alloys and Ti-Cr alloys with BCC / Laves two-phase structure. The microstructures in these alloys were controlled by changing both the composition and heat treated condition of the alloys. The relation between the microstructure and hydrogen distribution was investigated by the tritium radioluminography. The hydrogen distribution is sensitive to the difference of the composition in local area and the microstructure. Hydrogen concentration in the Laves phase is higher at the initial stage of hydrogen penetration into the alloy. However, hydrogen concentration in the BCC phase increases as the enhancement of hydrogen content in the alloys. I have developed a Ti-Cr hydrogen absorption alloy with high performance hydrogen capacity up to 3.5 mass% hydrogen content.
