On-board eddy flux measurement system were developed into a real-time data processing system with a new program on a laptop computer. The new system were setup on the R/V MIRAI, JAMSTEC since 2002. In addition to the energy flux measurement, new infrared gas analyzer were installed for the measurement of CO2 flux over the ocean. This is a unique system as a tool for the direct CO2 flux measurement without empirical transfer velocity. Her cruise extends from tropics to the Arctic areas, and her cruise extended to the round trip in southern hemisphere during 2003.A large amount of turbulence data were accumulated and quality control of the raw data is the most important after the cruise. A various kinds of trials were experienced to select a good datasets. Finally, a suitable algorithm of the quality control are established.Based on the selected data, surface flux distributions were analyzed for the energy, water vapor and carbon dioxide. Comparing the surface fluxes of heat and water vapor, the results were almost consistent with the bulk estimates. However, the magnitude of the CO2 eddy flux were much larger than the traditional bulk estimates. And in some cases, the direction of the CO2 transport conflict between the two method. This is a new finding of the present project for the solution of the "missing sink" of CO2.In the present project, we have developed a new automated measurement system including energy and gas flux over ocean. The conflict of the CO2 flux should be solved as the next project by careful examinations of eddy-covariance method and the bulk method as the cooperation between ocean chemist group.
