This research aims at developing an environmentally benign heat pump, which utilize the large heat effect at mixing carbon dioxide with methanol in the region of critical point of carbon dioxide. In this year, the heat cycle system designed until now was examined to accomplish the system through performing the following subjects.1. The flow of the heat cycle system was basically same as it designed at last year. The system was followed by some partial modifications.(1)In order to increase the generation of heat at mixing, the design of mixing cell was examined to select an effective one.(2)For the gas-liquid separator for distributing a mixture into carbon dioxide (gas phase) and methanol (liquid phase)) the volume of separator was enlarged to perform the stable pressure control around the separator, and also to maintain a constant amount of liquid hold-up.(3)A booster-compressor unit was introduced to facilitate the liquefaction of the carbon dioxide recycled and ensure the stable ope … More ration. Thus the modified system was used to attempt the recovery of heat in the mixing cell by heat-exchanger with water. From the results of this test, it was confirmed that about 50 %of the theoretical heat of mixing were able to recover. This heat effect will depend on the results that the ratio of heat of mixing consumed in the sensible-heat of mixtures to the theoretical values will be large in this small scale apparatus. However, the fruit of our research will be useful for design of a practical heat supply system.2. This research for the heat cycle system was followed by searching such new fluids that the larger heat effect can be expected at mixing with carbon dioxide. The measurement of heats of mixing by an accurate calorimeter has revealed the facts that the fluoro ethers and dialkyl carbonates provide twice heat value as much as alcohol's one. Then our heat cycle system was promoted by those results.3. Moreover, our research project has attempted to predict the pressure-temperature dependence of heat of mixing in the region of critical point. A prediction method of heat of mixing at high pressure has been examined.
