The META-REP project aims to examine the Replicability Crisis: the finding that, in numerous fields, repeating an experiment with a different sample does not yield the same results. The current proposal aims to mainly focus on the question why this is the case, while focussing on a case-study, namely causal theories of developmental dyslexia. We will identify and quantify factors that may affect replicability on the theoretical level (e.g., underspecified terminology), methodological level (e.g., poor measurement) and systematic level (e.g., publication bias). In the last step, we aim to use our newly developed or implemented measures in a regression model, to establish both the inter-relationship of the different factors, and to determine their relative contribution to replicability. In selecting an appropriate dependent variable for the model, we will also consider what replicability is and how it can be quantified. By concluding which variables are most likely to affect replicability, we will also make suggestions for future causal studies about potentially the most effective ways to increase replicability.
