The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of fall prevention programs by the exercise program and the program of changing the consciousness far the dwelling environment among the community-dwelling elderly1.FaIl prevention programs by the fall prevention exercise program and the program of changing the consciousness far the dwelling environment were examined among 197 community-dwelling elderly persons with 65 years and over in the model region (S town in Miyagi, Japan). SlgA concentrations after the fall prevention exercise was significantly increased compared with that be fare the exercise (+25 %).2.In the results of a survey on the falls and the dwelling environment; the rate of elderly people have the feeling of necessary to devise of fall preventions was 77 % in elderly who experienced fall, and 61% in elderly who did not experienced fall3.In order to execute the fall prevention program, the fall prevention classes were held to twice a month far six months in the interv … More ention region (Y town in Miyagi, Japan) - The elderly volunteer leaders were cultivated, participated in this fall prevention classes.4.A check sheet far risk factors of falls in dwelling environment were developed by considering the results of a survey on the falls and the dwelling environment5.Effects of this intervention programs to community-dwelling elderly aged 70-84 years were examined between an intervention region (Y town in Miyagi, Japan) and a control region (O town in Miyagi, Japan). The prevalence of falls far one year significantly changed 23.8% to 17.8 % in an intervention region, 23.9% to 20.2 % in a control region. The degree of changing the prevalence of falls in an intervention region was higher than that of the prevalence of falls in a control region. The life style and communications to family and neighborhood persons, the efficacy of motor fitness were improved or maintained in an intervention region. Those results suggested that the fall prevention program by the exercise programs and the program of changing the consciousness far the dwelling environment contributed to reduce risks of falls and to improve or maintain the healthy condition among the community-dwelling elderly Less
