项目摘要

前年度チューク環礁での予備調査に続き、本予算で2度の現地調査を行った。特に小島嶼における環境変動に絞った調査で、チューク環礁本島のウエノ島の他、ピス島、ロマヌム島、ファラパゲス島で、海岸部陸域、海域、環境衛生、社会変動、社会不安、生産基盤と文化・社会の持続可能性問題について調査を行った。社会面では、グローバリゼーションの与える変動は主島のみでなく、属島部でも顕著で、グアム・ハワイ・米国本土への出稼ぎ・送金、また金銭経済的消費習慣の村落経済への浸透が食生活面に及びつつある。今後の情報化・電化・耐久消費財浸透の始動以前の2006年段階の諸事実を、現地で補足しておけたことは意義深い。またかかる社会変動に関わる不安感も、文化・ライフスタイル面で観測されたが、島のアイデンティティ面にまでは及んでいない。生産面での、持続可能性に関わる危機意識は強く、人口過剰意識・自然環境危機意識もみられた。後者では、台風、海進、異常高温に関して強い経験に裏打ちされた危機意識であり、その近年における諸事実を確認した。海進でのタロパッチ被害(未回復)箇所、海岸部浸食箇所、磯焼け被害等について精査し、その現状捕捉も行った。例えば、温暖化に伴い珊瑚礁の白化した場所は各所に観察され、温暖域に棲息する貝類(シャコガイ類やカサガイ類)も多く分布しており、何らかの影響が起こっていると考えられる。エルニーニョ被害時の高温・磯焼け、ラニーニャ被害時の海進、異常台風時の塩害は、甚大且つ加速化しつつある。それら事実のさらなる、体系的・総合的・現地との協働による記録化体制の確立は急務である。現地での危機管理対応や、関係機関共同での研究体制の確立、センサゾーン確立に向けての話し合いを、グアム大学ミクロネシア地域研究センタースタッフなどとグアム大学で行うと共に、鹿児島大学で韓国海洋研究院(チューク環礁に調査研究所を保有する)、グアム大学上述スタッフ及び気候専門家、南太平洋大学漁村海岸域資源管理専門家と共に、今後の体制確立について話し合い、その上で国際シンポジウム、Climate Changes and Globalization-Environment and People's Life in the Pacific Islands-を、一般にも公開にして行った。その成果は、南太平洋海域調査研究報告No.48(総頁78)として英文で刊行し、現地関係者並びに関係機関に配布した。
