江戸時代、日本独自の芸術が勃興し、科学においては西洋から渡来した博物学の影響により、日本独自の「本草学」が生み出された。本草学は芸術、歴史、農学、薬学、科学といった多岐にわたる領域を含んでおり、その膨大な知の体系を理解するためには、分野横断的研究、つまりMultidisciplinary Scienceとしてのアプローチが不可欠である。本研究では、申請者がこれまで行ってきた研究を基盤に、江戸期から明治期を中心に据え、本草学者たちの巨大な知のネットワークを解明し、当時の歴史や文化を帰納的に解析する。この研究では、本草学者たちが研究してきた博物図譜などの芸術資料にも注目し、本草学の視点から見た地域社会構造の中で物産学がどのような広がりと深さを持っていたのかを明らかにする。また、リアリズムの影響を芸術、歴史、科学の文理融合研究として捉え、その影響が現代の本草学にどのような意義を持つのかを探求する。さらに、本研究において、“現代の本草学”を研究するためのプラットフォームを構築する。このプラットフォームは、本草学に関する情報や知識の集積と共有を可能にし、研究者たちが異なる分野や専門性を持つ人々と連携しながら、より深い洞察と総合的な理解を得ることを支援する。さらに、本草学の応用分野や社会への展開においても活用され、多岐にわたる問題に対して本草学の知見が有効に活かされることを期待している。本研究によって、本草学の歴史的な背景とその文化的な意義が明らかになることで、研究者たちがさらなる研究の方向性を見出し、本草学をより広く深く探求することができることを目指す。
