2022年度は、共同研究メンバー4名が従来の現地調査で得た知見のうち、現地・調査対象の状況と本研究課題との関わりについて確認していくべく、4月-7月の期間にオンラインで2-3時間の研究打ち合わせを計5回もった。これをふまえ、8月から9月（ウガンダ共和国）、および3月（ケニア共和国）に各自が現地調査をおこなった。3月には年度末の調査中間報告会を開き、今後各自が扱うトピック案をしめし、全体研究課題を部分的に修正した。たとえば、当初は中高等教育大衆化によって増大した中間層予備層（中間層ボトム）は公用語である英語による文書コミュニケーションに親和的で、公的セクターから社会政策による再配分の顕在的・潜在的要求をもつだろうと想定した。しかし、常勤職にある者など一部を除いては公的セクターや海外援助機関などからの再配分システムへのアクセスを試みる事例はほぼみられなかった。それよりも、親族間のパトロン-クライエント関係、妖術など伝統的な部類の再配分や盗み・賄賂などインフォーマルな経路での再配分などに依然として関心が示されていることがわかった。むしろこれらの枠組みのなかで親族間のパトロン-クライエント関係の管理、都市における妖術的なものの語り、盗みや賄賂などへの両義的評価など従来の理解枠組みとみえるもののなかでどのように新規の状況にともなうトピックを扱っているかに着目していくことが本研究課題のために有益である。そのほか、セカンダリ・大学卒の中間層ボトムの結婚戦略や（相対的上層である中間層ふくむ）交友関係、アラブ諸国への若年女子「出稼ぎ」に関する言説なども、注目すべきトピックとして挙げられた。これらのトピックは、近年のアフリカ研究で議論がさかんな婚活アプリ・SNSによるコミュニケーションへの評価や、（南アを中心に研究がおこなわれている）black taxと中間層の脆弱性という問題系に接続しうる。
