ヤハズヒゴタイは標高3000m付近では大きな頭花を地上茎に1つつける傾向が強く(H),他方,標高2200m付近では小さな頭花を多数つける傾向にある(L).本年度の調査結果から以下のようなことが判明した.1.最盛期頃のある時点で,Lは訪花頻度が開花数10あたりでヒメマルハナバチ訪花頻度が飽和し,結実数の飽和値は18くらい,結実率のピ-クは10になっている.Lの頻度分布もこの付近7ー10に集中している.Hは訪花頻度は40あたりで飽和値をとり,結実数でも30あたりから飽和しはじめ,結実率は20ー30あたりでピ-クになる.Hの頻度分布もこの付近20ー30に集中している.H,L両型共に開花小花数7ー10頃から飽和してしまう.つまり開花数は多くても誘因にはあまり意味がなくなってくる.これは送粉昆虫が相対的に少なくなり,花がわの競合が起こってくるためであろう.2.Lでは頭花数5くらいから食害頭花数は飽和する.つまり頭花数5までは食べ尽くされる危険がある.しかし小さな頭花を多くすると一つの頭花に集中して種子食害昆虫が共倒れとなることが増えるので結実数は増加する.これから小花は空間的に分散することによって食害を回避している.小花1つの頭花(頭花数=小花数)にまでならないのは,総苞,柄などへのコストにまだみあうだけの効果がないからであろう.Hでは食害による響影は少なく,花は集中開花でも問題はないので,究極の1つの頭花を地上茎につける傾向にある.3.Lでは頭花数と開花数に相関はなく,それぞれ独立に起こっていると考えられる(独立に対処できる).一方Hでは多少正の相関がある.これは頭花数が地上茎数と高い相関があるため.Lは頭花数のわりに同時開花数が少なく,Hは頭花数のわりに同時開発数が多い.
