项目摘要

今年度は東アジアにおける歴史時代の中で特に温暖であった8〜9世紀と寒冷であった18〜19世紀の気候特性を明らかにし、その機構を明らかにした。そしてそれぞれの時代における気候が人間活動に及ぼすインパクトについて考察した。(1)中国東北部に8〜10世紀前半に栄えた渤海国をとりあげ、日本との間の渤海使・遺渤海史について考察した。その結果、季節性が極めて明瞭で、冬の季節風の利用、最も強い危険性をもつ期間をさけたことなどが考えられた。また、多少高湿であったため、牧草の生育には好条件で牧蓄業を背景とする国家経済の安定が国家成立を支えたと思われる。(2)華南の人口は上述の寒冷な小氷期には急激な上昇を示めす。また、反対に古代の暖った期間には華北や、現在のモンゴル地域には人口増加が明らかであった。(3)中国の清代の長江流域の洪水記録によると1736年〜1911年に多く、例えば長江の洪水流域には、1700年代中期、1820〜1850年、1880〜1990年の3つのピークがある。多雨であったばかりでなく、地方経済の弱体化にともなう堤防管理の悪化も原因の一つであったと考えられる。(4)古日記を利用して江戸時代の日本の天候を復元してその経年変化をみると、天保期の変動は近畿地方が東日本より顕著である。そしてその変動傾向は逆である。また、飢饉年でも日本全体がひと夏中同じ傾向を示す場合は少なく、季節の前半と後半で差がある年が多かった。(5)東ヒマラヤ・東南チベット・雲南省などでも5,000〜4,000年前は高温多湿であった。その後、1200〜700年前にも温暖な時代があったがチベット文化圏の拡大によって人間活動が活発化し、森林が破壊された。
