项目摘要

第一に、東南アジア地域研究を専門とする研究代表者・分担者からの「外文明」と「内世界」の重層的構造を解明する試みが具体的に進められた。西村は、インドネシアの教育思想を対象とし、それに影響を及ぼしたヨーロッパ文明、インド文明、イスラーム文明とインドネシア固有の教育伝統との相互力学を検討した。白石は、ベトナムの王朝が革命政権によって解体され、吸収されていく過程を儒教的国家との関連において解釈するとともに、現代ベトナムの政治文化との連続性を明らかにした。弘末は、近世の北スマトラをテーマとし、南インドからの移住者が定着することによってもたらされた先住民族の「内世界」化の過程を解明した。第二に、日本研究およびヨーロッパ研究を専門とする研究分担者から「外文明」と「内世界」の連関をめぐる比較の視点が示された。河上は、西欧植民地支配と日本の東南アジアにおける軍政支配との比較を論じた。横山は、貝原益軒の研究などを通して、外来文明の変容と土着化の相互連関を究明した。園田は、士族の歴史社会学的研究などを通して、日本文化を分析する枠組みが東南アジアの文化についても有効であるかどうかを解明しようとした。第三に、上記の個別研究を総合するとともに、他の研究班との交流を進め、中国・インド文明と「内世界」に関するの研究、東南アジア地域と日本地域との比較研究などを通して、「外文明」と「内世界」の理論化が図られた。
