An optimized usage of a given railway infrastructure is an overall objective of railway transportation research. For this purpose, railway operational and transport economic approaches are being pursued. However, in the case of an analysis of network-wide integrated timetables, both of these research areas have yet to be effectively linked. The aim of this project is therefore a conceptual analysis of the technical and economic interrelationships in an integrated timetable structure. The approach includes the creation of generic railway networks respectively timetables and their evaluation using methods of railway operations research as well as economic methods. The findings will be helpful to address existing research gaps regarding the operational performance and profitability of integrated timetables in large railway networks. At the same time, the results serve as an aid for public decision-makers, rail infrastructure managers and train operating companies.
