We verified situations of eruptions of the Kirishima Volcano Group from the late 1800s to the early 1900s based on photos, pictures, newspaper articles, and other information. Results showed that the Ohachi Volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in Kirishima Volcano Group, erupted repeatedly and explosively during that period, engendering ash fall over a wide surrounding area. Injury and death have resulted to hikers, hunters, and so on who have happened to be near the crater. Many hikers and tourists still visit the Ohachi Volcano. We infer that their smooth evacuation on the occasion of eruption will be critical.
