The present study examines the nature of laryngeal gesture during the production of intra-sentential pauses by use of a rhino-laryngofiberscope. Pauses of two contrasting lengths, i.e., 'normal-length' and 'short', were compared. The production of 'short' pauses was characterized by a closed glottis with supraglottal laryngeal constriction. The production of 'normal-length' pauses presented inter-speaker as well as intra-speaker variations in the laryngeal gestures employed. One speaker produced normal-length pauses with an open glottis, while the other speaker employed both the open glottis and the closed glottis with supraglottal constriction in the realization of normal-length pauses.

本研究通过鼻喉镜检查了句内停顿产生过程中喉部姿势的性质。比较了两个不同长度的停顿，即“正常长度”和“短长度”。“短”停顿的产生以声门闭合伴声门上喉部收缩为特征。正常长度停顿的产生表现为说话人之间以及说话人内部所使用的喉部手势的变化。一个说话者在打开声门的情况下产生正常长度的停顿，而另一个说话者在实现正常长度停顿时既使用打开的声门，也使用关闭的声门和声门上的收缩。
