The effect of pause insertion in spontaneous speech and read speech of five native speakers of Japanese was analyzed acoustically. Spontaneous speech was characterized by a larger number of intra-sentential pauses (three to four times the number in read speech) and shorter utterance chunks between pauses (about half the size in read speech). In spontaneous speech, fast speakers tended to use longer inter-sentential pauses, while slow speakers tended to use shorter inter-sentential pauses. The voice pitch tended to be more monotonous in spontaneous speech.

本文从声学角度分析了暂停插入对5名日语母语者自发语音和朗读语音的影响。自发语音的特点是句子内停顿的数量更多（是阅读语音的三到四倍），停顿之间的话语块更短（大约是阅读语音的一半）。在自发演讲中，语速快的人倾向于使用较长的句子间停顿，而语速慢的人倾向于使用较短的句子间停顿。自发讲话时，音高趋于单调。
