英文摘要
In this research project we focus on the handmade Choma (Ramie) Textile Production in Japan-Showa-mura, Fukushima Pref., Miyakojima-shi, Ishigaki-shi, Okinawa-Pref., Ojiya-shi, Shiozawa-machi, Niigata-Pref. The findings are : 1. In Showa, the experience of raw Choma supply (to Niigata) has been adopted as a symbol of the community identity, and the program for succession of the skills-from Choma growing to weaving-are offered to the people from other areas, because Showa is the fastest aging community in the Prefecture. The participants' motivations include not only the acquisition of the skills in the narrow sense, but also the yearning for the rural life and the rethinking of the industrialized and commercialized lifestyle. At first, residents' reception was not so friendly and the participants especially from big cities were sometimes bewildered by the rural norms, lifestyle habits. But the continual communications have contributed to the promotion of the mutual acceptance and under … More standing. 2. In Miyako, Ishigaki, Ojiya, Shiozawa that have the tradition of the Jofu (highest quality cloth made of Choma) Production, the opportunities to participate in the programs for the acquisition of the skills are given prior to residents, because there are no severity of the problem of under population in these areas. But the succession of the traditional skills is now highly related to the selection of the personal lifestyle, the programs in fact accept many participants with high motivations from other areas. The reasons of the participation overlap that are seen in Showa. 3. Each area now experiences severe lack of manual spinners with high skills. In Choma-textile production, now it seems to be necessary to make the manual spinning process more transparent, not to keep it as a invisible presupposition for the weaving. 4. In Myako, Ishigaki, Showa, there had seen expressed concern by some youth about "What is the Tradition?", and this seems to have built the today's renewed basis for the succession of the skills. The impact of the Discourses on the "Definition of the tradition" to the succession of the traditional crafts works should be the next research issue of our project. Less
