The project is concerned with investigating the complex interactions in combined and hybrid machining processes. These include surface and profile grinding, high-speed / high-performance grinding and their combinations with laser machining. An essential result of the investigations should be a deeper understanding of the different stock removal mechanisms and how they are interrelated. Processes for conditioning grinding tools, whether by laser or electrical discharge machining, also influence the results of grinding. Here, too, new insights are to be expected.
