初年度は目的達成のため、外国人の日本語発声について、実例を収録するところから始めた。そのための準備及び実験のため6回会合を開いて調査すべき項目、被調査者選定方法、収録方法などを決定した。この決定に従って、本報告書作成段階において、合計85人から収録をすませた。被調査者の母語別内訳は次のとおりである。すべて留学生及びその家族である。(1)タイ語 8人、(2)トルコ語 1人、(3)インドネシア語 10人、(4)ヘブライ語 1人、(5)アラビア語 1人、(6)スペイン語 7人、(7)オランダ語 1人、(8)ギリシャ語 1人、(9)マラヤテム語(インド) 1人、(10)ロシア語 1人、(11)英語 25人、(12)韓国語 3人、(13)中国語 10人、(14)ポルトガル語(ブラジル) 3人、(15)テグル語(インド) 1人、(16)バングラ語 2人、(17)フランス語 1人、(18)タミル語(インド) 1人、(19)ドイツ語 2人、(20)イタリア語 1人、(21)ポ-ランド語 1人。合計で21の母語により85人である。現在はこのうちのいくつかについて実際に音声の分析を始めている。そのうちの一部は平成2年1月の研究発表会において、水谷修:韓国語・英語話者の日本語発話における韻律的特徴とその分析手続き、及び前川喜久雄:朗読イントネ-ションのプロミネンス、の二つの題目の下に発表した。前者は耳で聞いたときの文・句における高さの推移について考察したものであり、後者は機会を使って、応答文、「対比」のプロミネンス、疑問詞のプロミネンスを分析したものである。
