The aim of the investigations, which will be carried out on a surrogate model, is to systematically describe the spatial and temporal propagation of the water wave impact pressure in porous coastal structures, i.e. the propagation velocity and height of the pressure wave propagating through the porous medium as a function of the main influencing parameters. The following research questions are to be answered:1) What influence do the properties of the porous medium such as porosity, permeability and the shape of the individual elements of the porous medium have on the propagation of the pressure wave?2) What influence does the air content of the water in the porous medium have on the propagation of the impact pressure?3) What is the influence of a water layer covering the porous medium on the impact pressure at the upper boundary of the medium?4) What influence do the boundaries of the porous medium, which can either be impermeable boundaries or in turn can consist of porous media, have on the reflection of the impact pressure wave at these boundaries?Thus, a better understanding of the process is achieved and, for the first time, a generic model for the water wave impact load of porous media is established. A statistical description of the height as well as the temporal parameters (rise time and duration) of the wave impact pressure as a boundary condition of porous coastal structures will be given as well. By describing the pressures at individual elements of the porous medium, it will also be possible to draw conclusions about mechanisms that lead to damage in porous coastal structures.
