项目摘要

当初の研究計画では、琉球・沖縄の古地図資料と同時に、地誌資料の集成にも重点を置いていたが、前者の資料が膨大かつ全国に分散所蔵されており、また後者は歴史関係研究班との重複が懸念されたため、今年度は絵図・地図資料に限定して資料収集とデータベース化を試みた。資料調査は、琉球大学附属図書館、沖縄県立図書館、沖縄県立博物館、平良市総合博物館、宜野湾市・名護市・今帰仁村各教育委員会など、沖縄県内の主要な所蔵機関を中心に、鹿児島県立図書館、佐賀県立図書館、京都大学博物館、神戸市立博物館、国立国会図書館など各地で精力的に行い、琉球・沖縄関係古地図の目録カード化(名称、作者名、刊行年、主要地名、文字注記など)とそのデータベースを推進し、その成果はCD-ROM版で公開の予定である。また平成8年1月には那覇市におて古地図の熟覧会と研究集会を開催し、多くの貴重な報告を得た。とりわけ従来断片的にしか紹介されてこなかった、明治30年代の臨時沖縄県土地整理事業に伴う1/600、1/1,200などの大縮尺図が大量に残存している事実が注目された。今後は、未調査の沖縄県内市町村をはじめ、全国の主要古地図所蔵機関で、悉皆調査を実施し、より完全なデータベース化を目指すことを課題としたい。
