项目摘要

POETS(Personalized Online Electronic Services)は、インターネットを利用したリーディング環境の構築をターゲットとして平成五年度から開始された研究プロジェクトであるが、平成7年度から8年度は本プロジェクトの最終段階を迎え、インターネット上の様々な電子テキストを効率よく利用できるリーディングインターフェースを完成させることを目指す。すでにインターネット上において公開されているPOETSのリーディング環境は、(URL:http://www.notredame.ac.jp)電子化された質の高い広い範囲のテキストを、その学習者の知的な興味あるいは必要度、または能力に応じて選択利用させ、その上で学習者が実際のリーディング過程で必要とする様々な語学的サポート、すなはち電子辞書を効率よく利用できるものとなっている。プロジェクトの主要な機能のひとつにテキストの蓄積があげられるが、平成7年度中に蓄積が進行しているテキストのうち、例えば、読売新聞社が編集しIBH Communicationsによって英文翻訳され出版されたChronicle: The Great Hanshin Earthquake(英文--記録「阪神大震災」)などは、POETSから発信されるテキストとして平成8年2月1日より一部公開を開始している。このテキストデータの公開は、テ-ワード「異文化交流/コンピューターネットワーク/英語」によって要約されるPOETSプロジェクトのひとつの成果として位置づけることができる。
