回帰数列における諸性質を調べ、数列の極限の数論的性質や回帰数列の定義漸化式の一般化について考察するということが本研究の課題であったが、実際に本年度に得た結果はその課題まで達したものではなく、むしろこのような回帰数列の研究に必要な部分空間定理と呼ばれる定理を一般化するという基礎的な近似不等式の確立であった。部分空間定理はRothの定理とよばれるディオファントス近似の高次元版であるが、この定理は考えている空間の次元と一次独立な線形方程式の個数が一致した場合に用いられるが、線形方程式の個数が空間の次元より多い場合については、定量的な情報は何も求められていなかった。研究代表者はこの計算をおこないRu-Wongの1991年の結果の定量版にあたるものを得た。また無理数を有理数で近似するというRothの定理について、Rothの定理よりある部分の評価は悪くなるが定数項がeffectiveになる近似をPade'近似を用いて得るNesterenkoの補題を精密化し、円分多項式型のディオファントス方程式に整数解が有限個しかないという結果をT.N.SHOREYと共同で得た。
