To make the best practical use of old sound recordings as the resources for linguistic and historical studies, we achieved the following results :1. We developed a portable reproducing machine, 3.4 kg in weigh, with compatible use of contact system using sapphire stylus and non-contact system using laser beams.2. We sent the questionnaires about the possession of old sound recording items to 1083 domestic institutions by mail, received replies from 788, and confirmed the existence of wax cylinders at 47 ones.3. We visited 12 sound archives in Europe and USA and found the collections of voice recordings in Japanese recorded in Europe in 1900-1901.4. We identified the recordings by Societe d'Anthropologie de Paris in 1900 as the oldest voice recordings in Japanese ever confirmed. We also identified the names and careers of several Japanese persons of the Paris 1900 recordings.5. We made linguistic and historical analysis of speeches in the old sound recordings. We revealed the dialectal characteristics of each recording.

为了更好地利用旧的录音资料作为语言和历史研究的资源，我们取得了以下成果：1.我们开发了一台重量3.4公斤的便携式复制机，兼容使用蓝宝石触针的接触式系统和使用激光的非接触式系统。我们向1083家国内机构邮寄了旧录音物品占有情况调查问卷，收到了788份回复，确认了47个蜡瓶的存在。我们访问了欧洲和美国的12个声音档案馆，发现了1900-1901.4年间在欧洲录制的日语语音录音的集合。我们确认巴黎人兴业银行1900年的录音是迄今为止证实的最古老的日语录音。我们还确定了巴黎1900年唱片中几个日本人的名字和职业。我们对旧录音中的讲话进行了语言和历史分析。我们揭示了每一段录音的方言特点。
