项目摘要

研究対象にした資料は、大名上屋敷であった尾張藩上屋敷跡遺跡、永田町四丁目遺跡、汐留遺跡、比較資料として市中に位置する外神田四丁目遺跡から出土した漆製品である。研究期間で、器物資料と漆製品製作に関係した資料も含め50点程の関係資料を調査した。また、現代の漆工技術と比較するため、渋下地漆器の生産地である河和田漆器、堅牢な漆器を作り続けている輪島漆器の現場を訪問し、聞き取り調査も併せて実施した。本報告書では器物資料に製作資料も加え、下地調整と上塗り技法を中心にこの中の30点について報告を行った。光学顕微鏡による塗膜表面、裏面、断面の観察を基本に、材料の特定には偏光顕微鏡観察、蛍光X線分析、EPMA分析等行い検討した。その結果、尾張藩上屋敷から出土した資料は吟味された作りで、下地調整には特別な工夫がみられ、固い堅牢な塗膜になっている。消粉等の加飾が施されている箱物断片は尾張藩上屋敷、外神田四丁目遺跡から出土しているが、錆下地を用い単純な層構成となっている。両者間で技術の差は無く、用途によってその目的に適う製品を作っていたことがわかる。使用が規制されてきた朱に変わり、ベンガラの色材としての役割も重要となり、様々な色味のものが開発されていた。外神田遺跡の食器断片は、すべて炭粉下地で、ベンガラを赤色材としていた。陶胎漆器は、江戸時代になりまた製造されたと言う。これを裏付ける資料が汐留遺跡、尾張藩上屋敷跡遺跡から点出土している。下地の作りがそれぞれ異なる材料を用いて施されている。また、リサイクルが盛んに行われていたが、漆製品も何度も塗り替え使用し、最後には漆を入れるパレットや、容器として転用し使いきっていた様子が試料分析で明らかになった。
