项目摘要

本研究は、江戸時代における古文書・古記録-これを古文書あるいは文字情報と称す-を、その発生・伝達・管理といった古文書のライフ・サイクルの各段階において調査・研究した。この研究は平成14〜15年度の「江戸時代における言語情報の生成・伝達・管理に関する基礎的研究」(特定領域研究A 代表大友一雄)の成果を踏まえ、これをさらに文字情報に絞って実施しようと平成16年度から開始した。すなわち、江戸時代の文字情報を、その作成・伝達・管理という情報発生の各段階に応じた社会システムとしての言語情報環境の中で解明しようというのが、この研究の目的であるといってよい。文字情報の発生とは古文書の作成を意味する。古文書は作成の主体によって多様な役割・機能を持っていた。本研究では、この問題を江戸幕府の祐筆によって作成された書札礼を軸に研究した。これによって幕府の書札礼が当時の政治社会にどんな影響を与えたのかを検討する第一歩とした。文字情報の伝達とは、作成された文書が何らかの必要によって第三者に知らされる事をいう。本研究では、これを村における文字情報の伝達という事例を通じて検討した。具体的には、領主による法令や統治に関する事務の伝達が、どのように実施されていたのかを、文字情報の発生や管理の特徴を踏まえて検討した。文字情報の管理では、江戸幕府奏者番の文字情報の管理方法を、三河田原藩三宅氏の『手留』を中心に検討した。また、江戸幕府寺社奉行における文字情報の伝達・管理方法を、新たに寺社奉行に就任する人物と先に奉行に就任していた人物との情報指南の在り方を検討した。また、江戸時代は身分制社会であったので、秋田藩佐竹家の家中を事例に、「御判紙」と身分との関連について検討した。なお、報告書には、上記に関する論文と共に、江戸時代前半期に出板された書札礼に関する書籍類を翻刻・掲載した。これらは、研究の途上において検討した史料の一部であるが、江戸時代前半期に、どのような文書作成技術が普及していたのかを知るうえで、貴重な文献であるにも拘わらず、研究者に間にいまだ広く知られておらず、報告書への翻刻・掲載の意義は少なくないと考える。以上の成果によって研究の所期の目的は一定程度、達せられたといえるが、その内容については、特定領域研究成果報告書『江戸時代古文書・古記録(文字情報)の発生・伝達・管理に関する基礎的研究』を参照していただきたい。
