本研究は、従来必ずしも十分に研究されてこなかった東アジア諸国の政治と国際関係の理論的・実証的研究を共同で進め、新たな知見・洞察を得、ひいては、日本の発展モデルの意味について再考することであった。今までの東アジアの政治研究は、地域研究者の研究分野であって、他の諸国との比較や理論的枠組みの応用などには、なじまなかった嫌いがある。すべての事象が、その国や文化の特殊性によって説明されるものではなく、より普遍的に理解される枠組みや概念を用いていこうというのが目的であった。台湾・中国・ベトナム・北朝鮮・日本の政治体制の比較研究をまず手はじめに行った。とりわけ、1980年代の「太平洋のダイナミズム」のなかでどのような適応をとげたかに焦点をあて比較分析した。その中間的果として、政治学学術雑誌『レヴァイアサン』の第3号に「比較政治体制論ー東アジアと日本ー」という特集を組んで、猪口は「東アジア比較政治体制論」、白石は、「ベトナム南部問題をめぐって」、若林は「台湾 民主化と国民形成の交錯」、伊豆見は「民主化への苦難のプロセス」を、田中は「1980年代における中国外交製作の展開」を発表した。暫定的ではあれ、フィードバックを得て、さらに前進させたいと思っている。

This study is aimed at exploring the implications of Japan's development in the political and international relations of the East Asian countries. The political research of the East and the research of the region are divided into two parts: the comparative study of other countries and the theoretical study of different countries. The special characteristics of the national culture are explained by the universal understanding of the concept of "group" and "purpose". The results of the middle part of the book, No. 3 of the Academic Journal of Political Science,"Comparative Political System Theory in the East","Comparative Political System Theory in the East","Shiraishi","Southern Problem in the East","Taiwan's Democratization and the Formation of Nationalities","Democratization and Suffering in the South","Izu", Tanaka's "1980 's China Diplomatic Production Development" is a statement. The tentative plan is to move forward with the plan.
