项目摘要

1.これまで都市比較は多様な基準で行なわれてきた。たとえば人口、産業、近代・前近代、地域(アジア、ヨーロッパなど)、中央・地方その他。たしかに一定の目的意識にとって、これら基準は一定の意味をもち得た。しかし変動する世界の中で都市を全体的に把えるには不十分といわざるを得ない。都市の歴史的個性を明らかにする方法が考えられねばならない。2.ウェーバーの都市類型論は貴重な示唆ではある。しかしヨーロッパ都市、特に北ヨーロッパ都市の歴史的個性を明らかにするために、アジア都市をなべてひっくるめて呪術が支配する都市と規定するだけでは、現代世界を認識することはとうてい出来ない。明らかに時代は変った。3.アジア諸都市の個性を明らかにするために、これまで研究分担者が研究してきた都市につてい研究発表を行ない、発表の一部は印刷された。バンコク、マニラ、アレッポ、カイロ、ベネツィア。4.都市比較の一つの枠組として、バンコクを事例にして、貨幣、仏教王権という三要素の相互関係性が検討された。貨幣を海外交易、仏教をコスモロジー、王権を権力とすれば、三要素の相互関係性はバンコク以外の都市についても論じることは可能となるであろう。5.都市比較を時間軸、すなわち歴史的にみる場合でも、上記三要素の相互関係性は有効な比較の枠組となるであろう。すなわち、これら三要素は超歴史的に存在するが、具体的な現象形態は歴史的に多様に変化する。したがって、この相互関係性の歴史的変容を類型化することで都市比較が行えるであろう。この場合、三要素の相互関係性が具体的なかたちとして示される都市景観が重要な比較の手がかりとなる。都市景観は発展する都市を表象するだけでなく、都市が経験した過ぎし時、記憶を表象する。
