慢性疼痛患者や口腔顔面領域の神経障害性疼痛患者に対し、新しい口腔顔面領域の感覚検査機器（パルポメーター、温度感覚検査機器）を用いて感覚検査を実施した。口腔顔面痛患者の絶対数が少ないために、データ収集に長期間を要したが、現時点で目標被験者数を超えてデータ収集が完了している。引き続き解析および論文執筆を開始する。口腔顔面領域の感覚検査は神経障害性疼痛のみならず、顎関節症を始めとする口腔顔面領域の筋筋膜痛およびそれに伴う関連痛（refered pain）の診断にも有効であると考えられるが、新しい感覚検査器を使用する前段階として、関連痛についてのメカニズム解明が必須である。今回はデンマークオーフス大学の研究に協力し、健康な被験者に対し筋筋膜痛を再現し、関連痛についての観察を行った。同研究結果は痛み関連で最も権威のある国際誌PAINに掲載された。今後は新しい感覚検査器を用いた関連痛の実験を計画している。今回の研究に際し、口腔顔面領域の慢性疼痛、口腔顔面痛に罹患した被験者獲得に苦慮したが、その原因として口腔顔面痛が一般的に周知されていないという現状があった。そのため、近隣の歯科医院のみならず、医療機関また医療機関に勤める看護師や介護福祉士への教育が必要と考えられた。口腔顔面領域の感覚の変化および痛みの診断には、早期の介入や難治性疼痛の予防が不可欠であり、口腔顔面痛を啓蒙する立場である一般社団法人口腔顔面痛学会の評議員として啓蒙活動を行い、さらに他業種、例えば看護師や介護福祉士への教育が必要と考え、一般社団法人訪問看護支援協会と協力し口腔顔面痛の啓蒙および歯科・口腔外科についてのリテラシー向上活動を行っている。
