Globular star clusters are the oldest stellar systems in the Universe. They provide the key to understanding the creation of elements, distribution of dark matter and the formation of galaxies. This project will employ new techniques and instruments to address these issues. A unique database will be produced with applications from stars to cosmology. Our Australian-led team is at the forefront of world research. This project will exploit Australia's ~$30M investment in the Gemini telescopes (we were awarded over $1M worth of Gemini time in 2003). We will also develop new new cluster formation models in tandem with new data.
