The Interplay between Galaxies in Groups and their Environment

The effect of environment on galaxies, and vice versa, is poorly constrained. Here we study galaxy groups, which represent a new avenue to understand the complex interplay between galaxies and their environment. Our unique dataset on nearby and distant groups combined with innovative simulations, means our team is well placed to solve outstanding issues such as the role of `early pre-heating' and `gas cooling' in the formation of groups. Our results will have wide ranging implications for the formation of galaxies to clusters, and provide a local `benchmark' for future surveys. The project will bring much-needed postdoc skills to Australia.
