本研究は、従来十分に研究活用されて来なかった勝川派浮世絵の内「役者絵」を用い、歌舞伎史上の一つの頂点とされる天明期歌舞伎の芸の実態解明を目的とする。天明期歌舞伎は元禄期や文化文政以降と異なり台本・筋書等が少ない一方、役者絵が豊富に残る。同時代の第一次資料といえる役者絵は、歌舞伎の身体表現を視覚的に記録する手法を多く確立した勝川派によるもので、新資料基盤となる見込みがある。しかし勝川派役者絵は、世界各地に数千枚規模で拡散して存在しており、正確な年代考証や作品研究が進んでおらず、これが天明期歌舞伎研究の足枷となっていた。そこで本年度は国内外諸機関の役者絵をデジタル化することで収集する①勝川派役者絵研究環境整備を行い、年代考証をはじめとする②勝川派役者絵作品調査に重点的に取り組むことで、大量の資料と情報を扱う本研究の基盤構築に取り組むこととした。まず①のため図録やインターネットを通じて公開されている資料を収集すると共に、国内外の所蔵機関を訪問し、役者絵や役者絵と関係の深い作品のデジタル化に取り組んだ。これにより資料の蓄積とデータベース拡大が達成された。この①の蓄積を基に②を行った。年代考証に加え、落款等役者絵自体が包含する情報と、番付等の歌舞伎関連資料と組合う情報をデータベース上で蓄積し、一資料の情報量を格段に増加させた。これを通して落款一覧や当期の極印の状況等も明らかになり、この成果については既に報告した内容に加え、複数の発表準備がある。更に役者絵と類似性が高い絵が多く見られる絵本番付の絵の蓄積や、「絵」のみならず「文字」情報をも活用していくため計量的分析手法の導入についても検討し、情報蓄積に着手した。上記活動により大量の資料と情報を扱う本研究の基盤構築が達成され、今年度の目標は達成されたものと考えられる。
