本年度は、1.従来調査撮影した役者絵の整理・考証及びカ-ド作製、2.早稲田大学演劇博物館所蔵分の写真による整理・考証及びカ-ド作製、3.阪急学園池田文庫所蔵分の撮影と整理・考証及びカ-ド作製、4.絵本番付(絵づくし)の表紙絵の調査、に大別できる。1.〜3.に関しては、アルバイトの協力に助けられた。4.は国会図書調査が中心となった。申請時予定していた海外コレクションからの写真取りよせは、予算の関係で今回見送った。未発見のコレクションの発掘は、成果らしい成果はなかった。以上の実績は、基礎デ-タ-の集成と言っていいだろうが、従来と異なる点は、黒白写真によっていたのを、今年度撮影分から、カラ-にした事である。これにより資料的意義は大いに高まったと思う。カラ-焼付は白黒より安価という現状を利用した面もある。なお資料はスライドが紙焼きかも種々の利点欠点はあるが、紙焼きとした。役者絵のほとんどは、上演年月・劇場・外題など考証できるが、考証困難なもの二百枚程が今手もとにある。これはほとんどが大芝居のものでなく、マイナ-な芝居である中ウ芝居の役者を画いたものである。中ウ芝居は、歌舞伎研究の第一資料である役者評判記が扱わないので、番付と役者絵が大切な資料になる。番付研究(絵尽しを含めて)は進んでいるので、役者絵が資料として使用可能になるにつれ、大阪の中ウ芝居の実体が次第に明らかになってきた。特に人気の反映とも言うべき役者絵のことゆえ、実際に大阪の庶民に受好されていた役者の動向は今年度特に新しく発見した点である。
